The Chair of Migration Law and Human Rights (Prof. Dr. Grażyna Baranowska), in cooperation with the Refugee Law Clinic Erlangen‑Nuremberg, is hosting a film screening on the topic of asylum procedures and the living conditions of migrants with a subsequent discussion with the Bayerischer Flüchtlingsrat on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The event marks the launch of the chair’s new event series “Films on Migration”, which will present a film on migration once per semester.
The film “Souleymane’s Story” (Original with English subtitles) by Boris Lojkine will be screened. It tells the story of a young man from Guinea. He has applied for asylum in France and now he is about to have his asylum hearing. As he does not have a passport, he works under harsh conditions as a bicycle courier in Paris in order to earn money for the urgently needed documents.
Afterwards, a discussion will take place between Prof. Dr. Grażyna Baranowska and Arif Haidary of the Bayerischer Flüchtlingsrat. They will talk about the situation in Germany, the conditions of the asylum procedure here, the upcoming changes under the CEAS reform, and how the current political climate affects independent advisory services. The discussion will be held in German, but an English translation will be provided.
The screening takes place at the Juridicum (Schillerstraße 1, 91054 Erlangen), Room JDC 1.281.
Admission: from 6:00 p.m; Event start: 6:30 p.m.
