In November, our research associate Melina Riemer participated in a workshop hosted by the Leuphana Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) at Leuphana University Lüneburg on the topic “The Role of Law and Courts in Migration Politics.” The workshop, held on 13 and 14 November, brought together around 20 professors, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, and practitioners from various parts of the world to discuss the role of law and courts in shaping migration.
During the panel “The Role of International Courts,” Melina Riemer presented her own contribution titled “Access to Protection at Europe’s Borders: A Critical Analysis of Jurisdictional and Evidentiary Thresholds in Recent Push- and Pullback Cases Before the ECtHR.” The paper analyses recent judgments of the European Court of Human Rights concerning pushback cases and examines their implications for access to protection under the European Convention on Human Rights.
